My writing career began when I won a high school contest sponsored
by the Fairfax Journal newspaper, near my home town of Burke, Virginia.
Since then, I've appeared in two dozen publications such as the anthologies Tourniquet
Heart and Tales
From the Gorezone, and Cemetery
Dance Magazine. I also coordinated the republication of Lovecraft
at Last by H.P. Lovecraft and Willis Conover. The
Organ Donor, my first novel, earned some favorable
reviews. My column "Author's Notes" appears quarterly at Horror
World. My collection, Death
Sentences: Tales of Punishment and Revenge, was published by Undaunted
Press in 2005 and again earned some acclaim. Raw Dog Screaming Press published my second novel, Eyes Everywhere, and it was also well received. In 2008, Raw Dog Screaming Press's non-fiction imprint, Guide Dog Books, published Horror Isn't a 4-Letter Word: Essays on Writing & Appreciating the Genre, which reprinted all of my "Author's Notes" columns to date, among other things.
I graduated with a journalism degree from James Madison University
in 1995, and I now live in Staunton, Virginia. In 2007, I left my job as a litigation paralegal to become a partner in my wife Deena Warner's print and website design business, Deena Warner Design LLC. I frequently
give presentations on horror
literature and the writing business to libraries and schools.
