What is science fiction’s next great vision for an optimistic future? The folks at the Future Vision XPRIZE would like to make that movie.

I’m competing in their competition for a multimillion dollar film budget. Part of my submission packet was the below concept trailer, which I made through my usual workflow of Rokoko motion capture and Unreal Engine, but this time you’ll notice some subtle refinishing with Runway.

LOGLINE:

Thirty years after saving Earth by diverting a planet-killer asteroid into a stable orbit for mining, an outlaw AI must earn her father’s and the world’s trust when the asteroid breaks apart and again threatens the planet.

ABOUT THE CONTEST:

Sponsored by companies like Google and Range Media, this competition required interested filmmakers to submit a logline + personal statement + synopsis + treatment + trailer by Aug. 15. I learned of the competition at the end of June, so it’s been a sprint. From thousands of submissions, they’re going to narrow it down to the top 25 and then the top 5, with the finalists expected to submit their full feature-length screenplays by Sept. 10.

Things culminate for the top 5 in a Shark Tank-style presentation before a live audience at the Moonshots conference on Sept. 25 in Los Angeles. Judges include Neil deGrasse Tyson, Neal Stephenson, and Rod Roddenberry (Gene Roddenberry’s son).

Thank you to everyone who supported me by watching the trailer. The FVXP contest today announced the top 50 of their 2500+ submissions, and this was not among them.

All is not lost, though. Not only do I have a concept trailer, but I’ve spent the last few weeks writing a kickass screenplay, which I’ll be sending out. More news when I have it!
