An animated comedic music video about how to conjugate the verbs LIE, LAY, and LIE. Presented as an homage to the Schoolhouse Rock animated series, this song teaches how to conjugate these three troublesome verbs from the English language:
- Lie: to rest. “Lie, Lay, Have Lain, Is Lying.”
- Lay: to put. “Laid, Laid, Have Laid, Is Laying.”
- Lie: to tell a falsehood. “Lie, Lied, Have Lied, Is Lying.”
Director Statement
With a background in journalism and submitting fiction for publication for over 30 years, proper grammar and punctuation are naturally important to me. I wrote these lyrics back in 1998 to help me remember how to conjugate three very similar verbs, and then because I’m a pianist, I wrote the music, too. I was of course inspired by the Schoolhouse Rock films I grew up with. The song and script sat on ice for decades until the state of animation technology caught up to my ambition.
