I just sent the following emails to my U.S. senators in Virginia, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner:
In the light of the real risk of Donald Trump still being elected president and pardoning himself, would you please propose legislation that:
- Prevents a convicted felon from holding presidential office if that conviction precedes the election.
- Prevents a serving president from pardoning him/herself of a crime.
Thank you for your consideration.
I realize there are significant Constitutional wrinkles to be ironed out in any such bill, but that’s for better minds to figure out.
If you feel the same way, please take five minutes to visit your legislators’ websites and submit similar letters.
