On New Year’s Eve, a heartbroken woman and a failed writer meet in a diner where the waiter serves them the one thing they’ve never been able to swallow: their own disappointments. On the woman’s plate sits an engagement ring, and on the writer’s, a rejection letter. “I can’t eat that,” the woman protests—but what might happen if she did?

Writer Statement
Our failures shape who we are, for better or worse. That’s what inspired me to make “The Phoenix Diner.” It’s also the first film for festival submission that I’ve made with AI-generative tools. I did it to prove that the tools aren’t what matters. It’s the story.
