Here we go again: another big year behind us, and no doubt big changes in store. I hope everyone reading this stays safe and is planning their next accomplishments.
I hit two major milestones in 2024. In the spring, the Blueprint Masquerades at the University of Zurich put my stage play “Pirate Appreciation Day” through its second production. Deena and I attended the opening night and had a great time. I licensed a video production of the performance to them, so now it’s memorialized on YouTube. Here’s where you can watch it.
My other major milestone was earning a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which I’ve been doing since 2013. I predicted back then that a black belt would take 15 years—BJJ is an entirely different beast from Tae Kwon Do, which I did in the late 90s/early 00s—so I believe I’m on schedule for a casual practitioner. The crew at Total Defense Martial Arts remains a great family for this journey, and I hope to stay there for many years.
“The Cryonic Pharaoh” animated film is still in production, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s looking to be about a 35-40 minute movie, and I’m now shooting minute 33 or so and editing together a rough cut as I go along. Once it’s all in the can, I plan to practice on a secondary film project for a while before finishing this up. After that, possibly to film festival submissions, but I haven’t decided that yet.
My family is as committed to their creative projects as I am. Both sons are accomplished thespians with community and school theater, and Deena is a prolific fan fiction author and artist. Owen blows me away every day with his leather working creations.
Work-wise, Deena and I still chug along with Deena Warner Design, providing print and website design for the publishing industry. This year, I also completed 22 websites for First Arriving, where I’m still a part-time webmaster. Employment is great, but the moment I win the next Mega-Millions lottery, I’m buying a rocket ship.
Until I have more to say: peace out!
